Emotive and intuitive explorations of mysterious or spiritual places define my abstract and semi-abstract landscapes. Sometimes I enjoy creating more realistic pieces, especially dreamy romantic landscapes which present a different set of challenges. In my abstracts, I often incorporate dramatic movement and organic forms, produced with layers of paint and blending. My work has an overall softness as a result of applying paint with sponges, fabric and other equipment as well as brushes. I choose to use either acrylic or oil paints according to the subject of the artwork because each medium has unique qualities. When I paint, my overall aim is to create something beautiful or thought provoking. Examples of my paintings and commissions can be seen on my own website http://www.cathyyarwoodmahy.com/ and Facebook page.
